USKI hosts a group of experts in periodic meetings aimed at improving the state of knowledge and understanding among those who study the DPRK’s economy. Experts and analysts of the North Korean economy discuss recent developments in the economy, focus on trends and discuss various policy change implications. The group is chaired by Dr. Deok Yoon and Bradley O. Babson. Dr. Yoon is a Senior Research Fellow at the Korean Institute for International Economic Policy. Dr. Yoon is spending a year at SAIS as a Visiting Scholar, where he will be providing the benefit of his extensive research on the DPRK economy. Mr. Babson, who worked for the World Bank for twenty-six years, has studied the North Korean economy for the last decade. Karin Lee, Executive Director of the National Committee on North Korea, an organization that promotes principled engagement with the DPRK in multiple fields, serves as the secretariat for the working group. The Korea Forum will feature small group discussions with government officials, travelers or others of special interest to Washington experts on Korean peninsular affairs.
